At our Parish Council meeting 12.01.26, the issue of whether we should apply to WNC for yellow lines on the corner of Courtyard Lane was discussed. Email and Facebook responses to our recent canvas of opinions on this issue had been very mixed – some for, some against – no definite indication either way. At the meeting, our ward councillor was pessimistic that such an application would be granted, as WNC highways have a very restricted budget and, generally, yellow lines in villages are resisted as there is no enforcement. This led to a wider discussion about parking difficulties in the village generally.
So the Parish Council have decided on a compromise position. We will have a targeted windscreen leafleting campaign – politely asking motorists parking in contravention of the Highway Code (ie on junctions, too close to corners) not to do so. Also asking motorists not to park half on and half off the greens, causing damage. We realise that, owing to the narrow roads which were never intended for cars, parking with wheels on pavements is sometimes necessary to keep the road open for emergency vehicles and we will be permissive of that as long as the footpath is not completely blocked.
