Saturday 17th Oct: Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment (2007) The next in our Supper at the Opera series.
First performed in 1840, it’s a fun French opéra-comique about a tomboy unable to transform into a snooty duchess, but who finds true love anyway. It’s famous for the tenor showpiece “Ah! mes amis quel jour de fête …”, which has been called the ‘Mount Everest’ for tenors because it requires eight consecutive high Cs.
