Badby Fayre

The bi-annual Badby Fayre is now held on the second Sunday in September. It’s aim is to raise funds for the maintenance of St. Mary’s Church and to provide an opportunity for the village community to get together for an enjoyable event.

There was a 2 day Badby at Home event in 1982 organised by Michael A Clarke of Wheelwright Cottage. Then in 1984 and 1986 it developed as a bi-annual event -complete with heritage agricultural machinery (in Fennell’s Field), dog show, horticultural show, stalls, raffle,  games, brass band on the Green and teas in the church,  with advertising programme booklets sold in field and Challis’ car parks. Monies went to the St. Mary’s Church restoration fund.

Stuart Hodgkins took on organising the 1988 Fayre and  it stayed with him until he was well into organising the 1998 Fayre, then he moved away to Lincolnshire.  Geoff Pullin,  the Bell Captain,  took it on with the bribe that the profit that year would go to the bell fund to recast the cracked no.4 bell!  He carried on till 2014 then  Frances Williams and Marian Gulliver ran the 2016 version. After Covid and its restrictions in 2020-2022  Jim and Ruth McBeth took it on and it became a Scarecrow Festival weekend on the second weekend in September (previous Fayres had been on the first Sunday) It incorporated  a smaller annual Fayre and no Horticultural Show. .
2026 it reverted to Badby Fayre and Horticultural Society Show held on Sunday afternoon and centred around the village Green which is closed to through traffic.. .

Music, with stalls and games on The Green and tea and home made cakes  on sale in the village hall. The Horticultural Show is held in a tent on the Village Green and the Green  also hosts the popular Fun Dog Show.
