Badby History Group

The Badby History Group was formed in early 2017 by a group of keen residents to put together an exhibition covering a range of aspects of the history of Badby and its surrounding area between 1800 and the present day. The exhibition was mounted in St Mary’s Church, Badby, in the September of that year and some parts of it still remain on display, as at February 2026.

In 2025, some members of the original group and others set about putting the group on a more permanent basis and broadening the membership, as well as reviewing the range of activities and the periods covered by research. Members of this planning group visited nearby village history societies to see how they were constituted and to get some ideas of continuing activities that may be worth pursuing by the new Group. The first outcome is a Village History Afternoon to be held in Badby Village Hall on Sunday 12 July 2026, currently being assembled by Patricia Butler, Peter Cooper, Hilary Mensah, Helen Morris, Geoff Pullin and Ann Skinner.

The material produced for the 2017 exhibition was first converted into its own website and later was transferred into this website, where it continues to be added to and amended. A large number of people contributed in many different ways to the original exhibition, including: Ian Adamson, David & Sue Blundell, Barry Boswell, Olive Bourton, Keith Bull, Barry Care, Peter Cooper, Ann Eales, Melissa Gibbs, Lynne Green, Jocelyn & Sarah Hartland-Swann, George Hartshorn, Joanne Hind, Mary Hodges, Leonie and George Hopcraft, Janet Ingram, Pat McAlister, Hilary Mensah, Helen & Ken Morris, Chris & Gill Nelson, Maddie Oldrey, Richard & Heather Piner, Geoff & Carole Pullin, Alice Teulon, Ron & Sylvia Townsend, Peter Wakeford, John Warr, Jaci Wojtecki and not least the members of the church who provided space and refreshments for the Exhibition.
