Cricket has been played in the village since 1855 when Badby Cricket Club was established. The current club, Badby & Farthingstone Cricket Club, was formed in March 2019 when Badby CC and Farthingstone & District CC joined forces. A new club constitution was voted and agreed upon at the new club’s initial AGM. BFCC then reached an agreement with Badby Parish Council for a long-term lease on the Long Roods ground on Chapel Lane.
Since then, the club have worked hard to improve the ground and the facilities, attract new members and players, and create a sustainable sporting facility for the area.
The club is affiliated to the ECB and Northants Recreational Cricket and draws its players from the local area who enjoy the social nature of the cricket played on the pitch and the relaxed family atmosphere off it. Absolutely anyone is welcome to play for the club with age, gender, race or ability being no barrier. Each season sees up to 25 matches played, a combination of Sunday 30-40 over games and midweek T20 affairs, as well as a popular annual club day.
The club now operates on a pay-per-play basis with match fees being £10 per adult and £5 for juniors. There is no signing-on fee and no commitment to play a specific number of games.
