Cricket has been played in the village since 1855 when Badby Cricket Club was established. The current club, Badby & Farthingstone Cricket Club, was formed in March 2019 when Badby CC and Farthingstone & District CC joined forces. A new club constitution was voted and agreed upon at the new club’s initial AGM.
Since then the club have gone from strength to strength with a year on year increase in members, including youth, as well as several ground improvements including new net facilities.
The club is affiliated to the ECB and Northants Recreational Cricket and draws its players from the local area, growing steadily thanks to the efforts of the local community, club committee and players who enjoy the social nature of the cricket played on the pitch and the relaxed family atmosphere off it. Each season sees up to 25 matches played, a combination of Sunday 30-40 over games and midweek T20 affairs, as well as a popular annual club day.
The club were delighted on the eve of the 2021 season to announce they had reached agreement with Badby Parish Council on a long term lease for the ground at Chapel Lane, Badby.
Club chairman Andy Nightingale said: “This is great news for the club, the village of Badby and surrounding area. It gives us the security of tenure necessary to plan our long term development and gives the council, village and local area a viable and committed sports club that welcomes everyone.
“Thanks go to everyone on both sides for their perseverance in reaching an agreement and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Badby Parish Council.”
As the club looks to expand into league, youth and women’s cricket alongside its regular friendlies it welcomes all new players – men, women, teenagers and children. Membership fees are: Full £50, Playing £30, Social £20, Junior £10.

On the fund-raising front, Charlie Ashmore continues the weekly on-line sporting predictor event where club members and supporters are invited to predict the outcome of several weekend sporting events. Winning entrants collect half the week’s stakes with the rest going to club funds. It has proved to be hugely successful and open to all the local community. Find out more from this Facebook link
