On Monday 28 February Harry and Oscar continued removing the rotting supports for the south gutter of the nave roof and preparing a new, better sloping, bed for the new steel lining. Alex set about completing the chancel metal ‘trays’ over the insulating material. Tuesday saw the same trio back at work with biting NE wind after a wet night.
A sheet metal bending machine was delivered on Monday. It was put to work inside the church creating the nave roof south gutter linings from Wednesday by Alex and Shaun. The linings have been installed and the drain boxes welded into place.
The roll battens were fitted to most of the nave roof. A start was made on capping the roll battens on the chancel roof.
The architect made a visit on Friday. The extent of extra masonry work on the nave roof parapet was established – to fix several loose capping stones and replace completely three of the most severely eroded ones.
It was decided to refurbish the four nave ornate lead rainwater hoppers and replace the downpipes. The stonework by the clock face was inspected and it was thought best to omit the acrylic centre piece that was added in 2005 to cover the masonry within the dial ring. The clock face is due back next Wednesday.
