Badby & Farthingstone Cricket Club News

The club’s annual match against Oxfordshire side Ascott-under-Wychwood saw the season come to an end on yet another warm and sunny September afternoon.

Ascott batted first and, despite a great spell of bowling by Jordan Shingler (5-14) made a challenging total of 182 from their allotted 35 overs. Any hopes of a home victory were quickly dashed by a clatter of early wickets, with only one batter (Richard Bull) making double figures. Some late resistance from Graeme Whitcroft, captain Charlie Ashmore and Hritik helped the home side to recover but still finish short of three figures, a disappointing end to what has been an enjoyable season with more wins than normal, a fact that was remarked upon afterwards.

Post season activities got underway in the early part of October with a successful club quiz, bingo and raffle night at Badby Village Hall. Eight teams of various sizes were fed and watered during an enjoyable evening with the winning team taking home a £50 prize.

Many thanks to all those who took part, especially Pete, landlord of the Heart of England pub in Weedon, who donated our star raffle prize.

Next up is the club’s presentation night on Saturday November 7 which we co-host with Braunston Paddox CC at Braunston Village Hall, 7pm start.
