Badby & Farthingstone Cricket Club

Star of the month has to be teenager Ollie Tierney who finished an impressive few weeks with the ball to record his first five-for against Daventry Rugby Club.

Ollie took 5-21 in a sensational four over spell that tore the heart out of the opposition’s batting to give the hosts an impressive 74 run victory.

The home side’s total of 202 off 25 overs was thanks to fine, aggressive batting from captain Stephen Nelligan, Ryan Haynes, Ollie Dunn and Jordan Shingler. Later Ollie was well supported with the ball by Dom Goddard, Ahil and Mark Foster as the home side won comfortably.

This came on the back of a hard fought draw two weeks earlier against Harry’s Heroes in another competitive but good natured affair.

Batting first, B&FCC started well with an opening partnership of 30 from Alfie Giles and Ollie Tierney which led to a respectable total of 178. Harry’s Heroes began their chase well and were on course for victory until the introduction of Alfie and Ollie not only stemmed the run rate but brought about a collapse.

With the scores level, a final over delivery from Jordan Shingler saw the umpire raise his finger to dismiss the last batsman – another great afternoon’s entertainment.

Previously there was a home defeat to Culworth Casuals who have returned to the local Sunday cricket scene. Fine batting from George Crofts, 28 not out, ensured a semi-respectable home total but it was never going to be enough.
