In April last year Patti Gardiner, a retired GP who worked in Daventry for 28 year, trekked with 14 other women to Yala Peak, a 5,500 metre high mountain in Nepal. The expedition was set up to Commemorate Junko Tabei who was the first woman to climb Everest 50 years ago. The group was also remembering the earthquake of 2015 which devastated large parts of Nepal including the Langtang Valley through which they trekked. Their leader, Jo Bradshaw, was on Everest at the time of the earthquake. A short film has been made of their expedition and was premiered at the Kendal Mountain Festival in November last year.
The film will be shown in Badby Village Hall on Friday 10th April and the evening will also include a talk from Jo, a very experienced climber, expedition leader and motivational speaker. The aim is to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of Patti’s late husband, Dr Alastair Craig, who was a GP in Daventry for 30 years, but died in February 2024 of Pancreatic Cancer.
