Over 90 years ago Badby’s bells had a major overhaul. The three 400-year-old bells are difficult both to ring up ‘right way’ and to ring in rhythm with the younger ones. There is also some corrosion of the frame. Now is a good time to make them fit for another 90 years, so the PCC has authorised a complete rehang and has obtained a faculty. The total costs are expected to be £67,284 + VAT £13,457. We currently have £3,726 in the bell fund and grants promised of £12,350 The provision of two fit persons to help the bellhangers will be equivalent to a donation of £8,469 + VAT. The project meets the criteria for a Listed Places of Worship grant to cover VAT.
In the meantime, at the bell themed service in June, Susan Rose suggested that we aim to get more village ringers ready to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day in 2025 – so now is the time to start learning!
