We have been informed by the local organiser that the Mite Scheme, founded originally by the late Roy Barnett MBE of Badby, will unfortunately close at the end of January.
As you may be aware, UNICEF took over running the scheme which was used to purchase and distribute oral rehydration sachets, thereby saving nearly 10 million lives worldwide (9,075,057 sachets funded by the Mite Scheme since its inception). UNICEF have advised that, in the interests of their global operational efficiency, they are no longer able to accept targeted donations for a specific use.
The local organiser of the Mite Scheme has asked us to thank everyone who has donated via the collection jar in Badby Church – the will jar be kept in place in memory of Roy Barnett and continue to collect loose change which will be forwarded to UNICEF to support their general work.
