On Monday morning 24 January, Barry and Jamie from Gillett & Johnston removed the cast iron clock face annulus and took it back for redecoration at their Edenbridge workshop.
The scaffolders returned in the afternoon to install protective boarding.
On Thursday morning, hardy friends of the church stacked away all the chairs and tables, cleared booklets and leaflets away, bagged all the kneelers and stored things under the side aisle roofs which will not be disturbed during the works.
Early on Saturday morning, our main contractor Darren Guess came along with rolls of protective film and felt. He covered the furnishings, organ console, loud speakers and floors to protect them from any dust caused when the roof gets disturbed for the first time since 1975.
From this time the church is closed and the keys are held by the main contractor.
