The Badby Churchwardens have delivered the following letter to residents living near the Church:
“We wanted to let you know that we are expecting work to start later this month on the long-awaited new roof at Church. Normally we would have hoped to be able to give you more notice, but we got the chance of securing some significant government funding as long as we can get the project more or less completed by the end of March – which is great news, obviously, and an opportunity not to be missed, but it means we have had to put things in motion very quickly.
Following a pre-contract meeting on 13 January, we now have a better idea of timescales and wanted to put you in the picture as soon possible. We expect scaffolding to go up on 18/19 January, then work should start in earnest on 31 January. The roofing team will arrive mainly in one van, so we don’t expect there to be parking issues – they have been made fully aware how difficult parking can be near the Church, and have been asked to ensure they park considerately and certainly not to obstruct access for residents or others needing to get past, including emergency vehicles. Other contractors will also visit site from time to time and will be given the same instructions regarding parking.
The only time we expect a vehicle of significant size to need to park near the Church will be when the scaffolding is delivered on 18/19 January, and for this we will cone off a section of the path/kerbside on the south side of the Church, uphill from the gate. It means this area will not be available for others who might otherwise occasionally park there, but it should only be for a couple of days.
The workforce will normally be on site from around 8 am to 3 pm, and during these hours there is the possibility of some noise, but it should not be too intrusive.
