Day 2 starts with a ginny wheel being affixed to the tower roof beams and the new half wheels hoisted. The bottom halves of the wheels into the bell chamber because they have to fit around the bell as it is lowered into its frame pit. The top halves were stored in the clock chamber to get them out of the way,
The first bell to be hoisted using a manual chain hoist was bell 5.
When it was at frame level another chain hoist was fixed over the north west corner tower roof beam and attached so that the interplay of the two hoists could swing the bell over the frame and into its pit – back home after 258 days away! It is now resplendent with its new canon retaining headstock (red) complete with new bearings (blue)
While all this was going on there was an artist at work in the clock room painting new brackets (green) and wheel braces (red).
By working through till 6.30pm. the treble was hoisted and parked back in its place.
