Very sadly, we need to take down the grand old horse chestnut tree on the green near the former Windmill Inn. The Parish Council has tried to prolong the life of this tree over the last few years, first with chemical treatment, then by reducing the crown, but our latest tree audit report condemns it as unsafe and strongly recommends removal. With so many schoolchildren passing under it or near it every day, we obviously cannot take any chances.
A replacement tree (a sweet chestnut) has been very kindly donated.
Unfortunately, we have had to commission a further study of another horse chestnut on the main green and will be discussing the best action to take with that tree at our Parish Council meeting on 9th February. All these lovely old trees, which are such a distinctive feature of our lovely village, were planted at the same time and are coming to the end of their life within a few years of each other.
