The full gang set about completing the stripping of slates and old battens on Monday, 7 February. They then covered the nave roof with new Wondervent underlay.
On Tuesday new battens were nailed from ridge to gutter of the chancel roof and new planks screwed horizontally across them to make the boarding strong enough to withstand the force of up-draughts created by strong winds acting on the future stainless steel covering. By the end of the day the extra boarding was complete and covered with underfelt. A start was made in the drizzle on Wednesday to investigate the lead lined gutter behind the chancel parapets.
The timber for the batten roll joints required for the stainless steel sheeting were delivered and the heap of redundant old slates, felting and slate battens were taken away by Brad.
