With the fine weather continuing, the club continue to play at their beautiful ground at Long Roods off Chapel Lane …. even if a first win of the season continues to elude them.Two away trips – to nearby Everdon and Buckingham Town – were punctuated with a midweek T20 loss to the Thirsty Knights (the clue’s in the name).
At long standing rivals Everdon, scene of a comprehensive win last season, the presence of two ‘galactios’ in the home ranks was enough to sway the game in Everdon’s favour.Our wickets were evenly shared between Steve Haynes, Alex and Dom Goddard, Dhillon Choksi and Ollie Tierney; wicket-keeper Richard Bull starring behind the stumps with a stumping and an unusual catch using both his pads to trap the ball. Everdon totalled 182, which always looked to be too much in a 30 over match.Two unfortunate run outs and accurate Everdon bowling did not help our cause but at least we reached 100.
Away at Buckingham, we gave debuts to Nether Heyford father and son Rory and Keagan Lavery plus Nathan Gibson. At 43-3, the home side were initially struggling at 43 for 3 before recovering to make over 200. Pick of B&FCC bowers was Jordan Shingler who took six wickets. Set over 200 to win, we got off to a good start with the best batting coming from Richard Bull, Nathan, who played some shots that belied the fact he only took up cricket this year for the first time, and Steve Haynes who recorded our best score. Well done Steve.
With three home games coming up in the next month, the club looks forward to welcoming new players and visitors who want to play friendly, social cricket.
