Badby and District Film Society

There are 2 films being shown in Badby Village Hall in February.

Saturday 14th February: Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte (1988), part of Our Supper at the Opera series, it brings Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s brilliant film of one of Mozart’s best-loved comic operas. It stars Edita Gruberova and Teresa Stratas, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and was filmed on location in Vienna. It’s in Italian, with English subtitles. We last screened this delightful film version 12 years ago, so we thought it timely to celebrate Valentine’s Day 2026 by showing it again.

Friday 27th February: War of the Buttons (1994) Comedy/drama about two rival boys’ gangs in Ireland – one working class, the other middle class – engaging in mischievous battles using humiliating tactics like cutting off buttons and removing underwear. Set and filmed in County Cork, it’s based on the popular 1912 French novel, La Guerre des Boutons. It examines issues of conflict and violence: how war can divide people who could be friends as easily as enemies. Written by Colin Welland and produced by David Puttnam. “Warm, lovely little film.
