Supper at the Opera on Saturday 11th March 2023 will be a showing of Mozart’s The Magic Flute (1975, 137 mins) .
Ingmar Bergman’s magical film version recreates the original 1791 production in Vienna, but set in a replica of the 18th century theatre at Drottningholm, near Stockholm; it is sung in Swedish and stars relatively unknown Nordic singers; “No subsequent version that I have seen live or recorded comes close to the experience of watching Bergman’s account.”
