There has been a question as to why the blue plaque commemorating Roy Barnett MBE, installed in 2019, was seen being removed from the Chapel’s outside wall. Janet Emery, an Elder of the United Reformed Church, reports:
The ‘Barnett girls’ [Vanessa, Anita, Noeline, Hilary, Cheryl] have removed the blue plaque from the chapel wall because the chapel will eventually be sold by the Synod, which will take possession of the building on 1 September 2021. The congregation will be working on site until 31 August.
The plaque is being gifted by the ‘Barnett girls’ to the school and will be placed on the school building that Roy went to as a child – so it is being very well placed by the family in his well-deserved memory.
